Vessel in the form of a reclining dog

This dog is hollow since it is a vessel with a tubular opening on its back. The pottery is finished with a burnt red pigment with black and cream mottling; the surface is smooth and has a sheen. The dog lies on its stomach with its head on the ground.


Face plaque

This plaque has a greenish glow resembling opaque glass but is made out of the semi-precious stone onyx. The head wears a narrow oblong headdress on the flat top of its head. Its indented eyes, with lids apparent, are positioned broadly on the face and are oval with pointed corners.

This head was probably once attached to a body since there is evidence of a break at the neck, which can be seen from the back. The face is broad and narrows at the chin which has a dimple at the centre. The oval eyes are set broad on the face with lids top and bottom.

This smiley, mat brown, ceramic head has a broad face. His forehead recedes back into the top of his head creating a foreshortening effect. His cheeks are bulbous because of the broad smile which reveals his top teeth and the gap below them.


Two part effigy vessel or censer

This figure sits cross-legged with the left foot resting on top of the right thigh and right leg drawn under the left thigh. The arms are drawn towards the chest with hands resting one on top of the other on the centre of the chest. The head is turned to the left.


Effigy conch shell

This is a large effigy of a conch shell which lies horizontally, the interior of the shell visible from one side. It is made from terracotta which has been polished smooth and covered in a white glaze although the natural material shows through giving the glaze a translucent quality.


Engraved disc

This circular engraved disc is heavily decorated. It appears to depict a seated figure, carved in low relief. Incised lines define the details and decorations which have then been filled with a red pigment. The background is also filled with a red pigment to enhance the imagery.


Aztec kneeling figure

This woman is evidently aged, which can be read from her hunched posture, protruding vertibre and wrinkled face. She has a large, hooked nose, gaps in her teeth and sunken eyes. Her left ear is missing; her right is thick and square and proportionally very large for her face.


Standing monkey

This large wooden monkey is carved out of one piece, part of the left side of the torso is missing and there is considerable cracking and surface wear.

This small green stone figure draws its knees to its chest. Its hands grasp its knees from arms which are rendered close to the body. The feet are flat to the bottom of the thighs. The top of the head is relatively flat. The round, protruding eyes are shut in sleep or death.

This pendant depicts an axe god whose arms are crossed over the chest. The pendant is lozenge shaped. Only the face and arms of the figure are shown, defined by incised lines. The figure appears to be wearing a head-dress decorated with a horizontal zig-zag pattern.

Perhaps because of its function as a stool this piece is worn with significant cracking and chipping, as well as a sheen developed through wear. The head is vaguely oblong with minimal features; slightly raised nose and ears with dips at the eye sockets and mouth.


Double faced head

This ceramic, double-faced, head is a mat red/brown due to applied pigment. The two heads are conjoined at the centre and share a central eye. The three eyes are oval; the central eye has a raised pupil while the other two have indented ones.

This male figure has his knees bent as his crossed arms lean upon them. His thighs are rendered from his body but there is no detail on his groin or torso. His ankles rise from the square base and he has no feet.

This pear-shaped pot is made from thinly carved alabaster. It is yellowy-beige in colour and although opaque, has a translucent quality. The exterior is very smooth and rounded with some evidence of wear and discolouration on one side of the rim. There is no lid.

This finial with surmounted figure is made of a single piece of bone. The figure stands upright when the tube is slanted downwards, with the lower end behind the figure. The figure stands just before the middle. Its eyes are closed, it has a triangular nose and its mouth is a down-turned line.

This dark brown, female figure is made of ceramic with a slip glaze, although the face and helmet-shaped hair remain plain. The breasts are swollen and the arms folded beneath them. She has a long body and short legs which finish at rounded points.
